29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use:  (a) Brass Brewing Company:  On or about July 27, 2018, and at times prior, employees were potentially exposed to chemical injury due to lack of suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body after exposure to injurious corrosive materials.  Employees use small amounts of Acid Cleaner No. 6 (manufactured by Five Star Affiliates, Inc.) to sanitize fermentation tanks in between brews.  Acid Cleaner No. 6 contains nitric acid and phosphoric acid, and has a pH concentration of <1.  Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet).

29 CFR 1910.1200(e)(1): Employer had not developed or implemented a written hazard communication program included the requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1910.1200(e)(1)(i) and (e)(1)(ii):   (a) Brass Brewing Company: On or about August 1, 2018, and at times prior, employees were potentially exposed to injury from chemical exposure due to lack of a written hazard communication program.  Chemicals used in the workplace include, but are not limited to, Acid Number 5 (manufactured by Five Star Chemicals & Supply), which contains phosphoric acid and nitric acid.  Acid Number 5 is a caustic material with an estimated pH of 1.0.  Phosphoric acid may cause chemical burns on contact.  Nitric acid may cause delayed pulmonary edema, bronchitis, pneumonitis, or dental erosion.  Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet).
