29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): (1) Unprotected sides and edges. (i) Except as provided elsewhere in this section, the employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that was 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level is protected from falling: a. On or about August 1, 2018, in the process sorting machine area, employees performing maintenance and mail search task near the trays and carriages were exposed to the hazard of slipping and falling into the chutes into the mail transport equipment. b. On or about August 1, 2018, in the process sorting machine area, employees performing maintenance and mail search task walked on a catwalk that was missing a midrail, exposing employees to a fall hazard. c. On or about August 1, 2018, in the process sorting machine area, employees performing maintenance and mail search task walked on catwalks that ended without an end rail, exposing employees to a fall hazard.
