29 CFR 1910.132(f)(1)(i): The employer did not provide training to each employee who is required by this section to use PPE on knowing when PPE is necessary: a) Food Service Department, on or about 9/17/18: The employer had not provided training to each employee, to know specifically when personal protective equipment, such as, heat resistant oven mitts, was required to be worn. On 9/17/18 an employee sustained a burn injury while placing a tray into a steam oven.

29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a) VA Medical Center, Nutrition and Food Service, on or about 9/17/18: The employer did not require the use of hand protection when employees were exposed to hazards such as thermal burns. On 9/17/18 an employee sustained a severe burn injury to their unprotected hand from exposure to hot steam generated by the Convotherm oven-steamer.
