General-duty citation text
29 CFR 1928.57(a)(7)(i): The employer did not protect employees from coming into contact with hazards created by moving machinery parts through the installation and use of a guard or shield or guarding by location: On October 22, 2018, a sample bag table was setting in a position near the hazard zone of the press rotation so that an employee was in the arc of the press while removing the bag which was a periodic job task. The table was not fixed in a permanent position and there was no demarcation for table placement resulting in employee contact with the machine while this work task was being performed. No physical guard, safety mat, or awareness barrier existed to prevent an employee from stepping into the yellow painted hazard zone. A warning light was not visible to an employee working at the sample bag table. Abatement documentation is required for this violation.
