29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a working/walking surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet ( 1.8m ) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. a) Employee(s) performing masonry work on a 2nd floor storage platform (mezzanine) with two (2) unprotected edges, were not protected from falling to the lower level. This exposed employees to a fall hazard of 12 feet. (b) Employees performing construction of an elevator shaft from the 2nd floor storage platform (mezzanine) were not protected from falling to the lower level of the elevator shaft. This exposed employees to a fall hazard of 19 feet.
