29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc.    Employees feeding the finger jointer located in the production room were exposed to unguarded ingoing nip points created by the belt conveyor.

29 CFR 1910.213(n)(1): Each planing, molding, sticking, and matching machine shall have all cutting heads, and saws if used, covered by a metal guard. If such guard is constructed of sheet metal, the material used shall be not less than 1/16 inch in thickness, and if cast iron is used, it shall be not less than three-sixteenths inch in thickness.    Employees operating the SCMI Model Logic.23 molding machine located in the production room were exposed to unguarded cutting heads that were not covered by a metal guard.

29 CFR 1910.213(n)(3): Feed rolls shall be guarded by a hood or suitable guard to prevent the hands of the operator from coming in contact with the in-running rolls at any point. The guard shall be fastened to the frame carrying the rolls so as to remain in adjustment for any thickness of stock.    (a)  Employees operating the SCMI Model Logic.23 molding machine located in the production room were exposed to unguarded feed rolls that exposed employees to the ingoing nip point created between the roll and material.    (b)  Employees feeding the Industrial Woodworking Machine Co Inc. finger jointer were exposed to unguarded feed rolls as they could reach under the guard and contact the ingoing nip point created between the roll and material.

L&N Hardwoods, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1062419, citation number one, item number two and was affirmed as a final order on September 14, 2015, with respect to a workplace located at W7447 Anderson Ave. Shawano, WI 54166.

29 CFR 1910.22(a)(2): (2) The floor of each workroom is maintained in a clean and, to the extent feasible, in a dry condition.  When wet processes are used, drainage must be maintained and, to the extent feasible, dry standing places, such as false floors, platforms, and mats must be provided.   On or about January 4, 2019, the floor in the production room located by the office door was not maintained in a dry condition as the roof was leaking near an unused air handler and roof drain.  The roof was also leaking in several other locations throughout the facility including near the belt sander and molder.  L&N Hardwoods, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1062419, citation number one, item number two and was affirmed as a final order on September 14, 2015, with respect to a workplace located at W7447 Anderson Ave. Shawano, WI 54166.
