29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652 (b) or (c). (a) The employer did not ensure that an employee in an approximately 7 foot deep, 20 foot long trench for the purpose of installing a 4 inch sewer lateral were protected from cave-ins with an adequate protective system. This exposed employees to a trench collapse hazard.
