29 CFR 1926.850(e): The employer did not determine if any type of hazardous chemicals, gases, explosives, flammable materials, or similarly dangerous substances were used in any pipes, tanks, or other equipment on the property. When the presence of any such substances was apparent or suspected, the employer did not perform testing and purging to eliminate the hazard before demolition was started. a) Jobsite located at 4701 N Mascher St, Philadelphia, PA: An employee cutting a metal column with a torch at a site where underground fuel tanks were recently emptied was exposed to flammable and explosive hazards as the employer did not test the area for the presence of any hazardous gas prior to starting demolition work. Noted on or about 3/12/19.
