Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an unstable chemical reaction from improperly stored thiourea dioxide: a) 1210 Sesqui Street, Allentown, PA - On or about July 17, 2019, employees working near a storage area located at the facility were exposed to a release of vapor from an unstable chemical reaction due to the improper storage of thiourea dioxide, which was stored in a warehouse where temperatures were above 94 degrees Fahrenheit. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to store the chemical at/or below 39 degrees Fahrenheit.
