OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. (a) Confederate Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) - Education Center - Lobby - On or about July 18th, 2019 and at times prior thereto, employees were exposed to being caught in the rotating parts of the Rigid 300 portable pipe threading machine. In the event an employee were to get caught in the rotating parts of the machine, they are likely to receive deep lacerations and/or amputation. Death is also likely to occur. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard for pipe tools, B208.1-1982 "Cord-Connected Portable Pipe Threading Machines and Portable Power Drives-Safety Requirements," Paragraph 4.4, requires that a momentary contact device be used to control the power input to the cord-connected portable pipe threading machine or power drive. A guarded foot switch is an example of such momentary contact device.
