29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding were not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) Superior Farms at 4900 Clarkson Street, Denver, CO 80216: On or about August 2, 2019 the employer did not ensure that three augers located in the basement under the production area were effectively guarded. This conditions exposed employees to rotating parts. (b) Superior Farms at 4900 Clarkson Street, Denver, CO 80216: On or about August 2, 2019 the employer did not ensure that a Dayton Mill press in the maintenance shop and storage area was effectively guarded. This conditions exposed employees to rotating parts. (c) Superior Farms at 4900 Clarkson Street, Denver, CO 80216: On or about August 2, 2019 the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from injury, in that the area where carcasses exit the de-hider station, specifically from the floor to the bottom of the hanging carcass, is not guarded to prevent employees coming in contact with the moving equipment when its in operation. This condition exposed employees to struck-by and rotating part hazards.

This condition exposed employees to laceration and amputation hazards.

The gap between the work rest and the wheel on the Dayton Industrial Grinder, Model No. 1Z707X was measured to be more than one-eighth of an inch. The gap between the wheel and the tongue guard was measured to be more than one-fourth of an inch. This condition exposed employees to struck-by hazards.

29 CFR 1910.303(e)(1): Electric equipment was used prior to the required markings being placed on the equipment: a) Superior Farms at 4900 Clarkson Street, Denver, CO 80216: On or about 8/2/2019 the employer did not ensure that the manufacturer's name, trademark, or other descriptive marking by which the organization responsible for the product could be identified was placed on the equipment prior to use. Other markings giving voltage, current, wattage, or other ratings were also not placed on the equipment prior to use. Manufacturer's plates were missing or illegible on the band saws being used to break down carcasses in the fabrication area. This condition exposed employees to electrical hazards.
