Compressed air shall not be used for cleaning purposes except where reduced to less than 30 p.s.i. and then only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment. a. On or about September 13, 2019, employees used compressed air to spray out the radiator and engine compartments of forklifts. The nozzle pressure operated at approximately 150 p.s.i., thereby exposing employees to a struck by hazard.

On or about September 16, 2019, and at times thereto, employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards as a result of forklift battery chargers that were unprotected from forklift operations. An energized 480 volt battery charger had a damaged enclosure.

29 CFR 1910.178(l)(6): Certification. The employer shall certify that each operator has been trained and evaluated as required by this paragraph (l). The certification shall include the name of the operator, the date of the training, the date of the evaluation, and the identity of the person(s) performing the training or evaluation. a. On or about September 16, 2019, the employer had employees operating forklifts in the warehouse that had received training and evaluation on the safe use of forklifts. The employer did not ensure that certifications were documented for each trained operator.
