29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Organic Alternatives, LLC at 337 Hickory Street, Fort Collins, CO 80524: On or about 10/7/2019 the employer did not ensure that one or more methods of machine guarding were provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by the point of operation. The Troy-Bilt Tomahawk Chipper/Shredder, Model No. 47259 was guarded with a grate that not sufficient to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in contact with the moving parts of the machine. This condition exposed employees to amputation and laceration hazards and resulted in an incident in which an employee's fingertip was amputated.
