29 CFR 1926.102(a)(1): The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation. On 05 November 2019, at a jobsite located at 1955-1981 W. Downer St. Aurora, IL. 60506, employees of AJ Professional Roofers Inc. were observed installing shingles on a commercial roof without the proper personal protection equipment. Employees were not provided safety glasses to wear, when they were required to use pneumatic air guns to install shingles on the roof. This exposed employees to a struck by hazard. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d). AJ Professional Roofers, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.102(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1280000, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 04/11/2018, with respect to a workplace located at 492-498 Stone Gate Cr., Schaumburg, IL. 60173. Each employee on a steep roof with unprotected sides and edges 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels shall be protected from falling by guardrail systems with toeboards, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. On 05 November 2019, at a worksite located at 1955-1981 W. Downer Pl. Aurora IL. 60506, employees who were removing and replacing a roof were exposed to fall hazards of approximately 13 feet. Some employees were wearing fall protection harnesses but were not tied off, while others were not wearing any form of fall protection. No other form of fall protection was being utilized during this work activity. Abatement documentation is not required for this item.
