29 CFR 1910.176(b): Secure storage. Storage of material shall not create a hazard. Bags, containers, bundles, etc., stored in tiers shall be stacked, blocked, interlocked and limited in height so that they are stable and secure against sliding or collapse. a. On or about November 9, 2019, in the Locomotive Preventative Maintenance Facility, employees were exposed to stuck by hazards due to fabricated "cradle(s)" used to stack equipment, traction motors and idlers, which did not provide stable/secure storage or prevent sliding of stacked equipment. An employee was fatally injured when storage of wheel/axle assembly (idler) was not secured to protect against sliding.
