On or about January 31, 2020, pieces of display shelf rebar of varying lengths were stored horizontally on storage rack shelves with sharp ends hanging off, creating a laceration hazard to employees working or walking in the aisle. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

29 CFR 1910.36(g)(2): Exit access(es) were not at least 28 inches (71.1 cm) wide at all points. On or about January 31, 2020, exit accesses were not maintained at a minimum of 28 inches at all points between storage racks and merchandise stored on conveyances (U-boats and cages), stored on the floor and stored/protruding from shelves of storage racks in the following areas: a) Back storage room. b) Middle stock room. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d). Bed, Bath & Beyond, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 1212887, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1a and was affirmed as a final order on June 23, 2017 with respect to a workplace located at 18700 Veterans Boulevard, Unit 14, Port Charlotte, Florida 33954.

29 CFR 1910.303(g)(1): Sufficient access and working space was not provided and maintained about all electric equipment (operating at 600 volts, nominal, or less to ground) to permit ready and safe operation and maintenance of such equipment. Back Storage Room. On or about January 31, 2020, the employer did not maintain at least 36 inches of clear space in front of electrical panels up to 480v. Employees walked in front of panels to access various aisles of the back room. Access to working space and shutoff in the event of an emergency was partially restricted by storage of materials and cardboard boxes. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
