The two hand controls functioned as two hand trips, meaning that the press would not stop mid-stroke if a control button was released. The minimum safety distance was calculated using the flywheel speed and infinite number of engagement points to be 35 inches. The controls were located 20.5 inches from the point of operation.

The press was not equipped with a brake monitor and did not appear to have features to ensure control reliability such as, but not limited to, a way for the Ross self-checking dual solenoid valve to disable press stroking in the event of a valve failure.
