29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a) On 9/16/2020 the Okuma ACV-AII (model # ACV20AII) CNC machine located on the plant floor at the CNC area allowed employees access to the tool changer area, due to the tool changing area not being properly guarded with methods such as barrier guards and electronic safety devices in that the light curtain did not shutdown the equipment when employees passed through to the tool changer. Employees were exposed to a caught in between hazard when the tool changer activated.
