29 CFR  OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees.  a) Steam Dryer: The inlet and outlet augers of the EnerDry pulp dryer had plugged and stopped operating.  Employees were removing wet beet pulp through sight windows located at the inlet feed and were exposed to the fire hazards through the introduction of oxygen to the heated organic material.  NOTE: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item.

29 CFR  1910.132(d)(1)(i):The employer did not select and have each affected employee use the types of personal protective equipment (PPE) that would protect the affected employee(s) from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment.  a) Steam Dryer: Employees were exposed to burns and struck by hazards where personal protective equipment did not provide adequate protection from high temperature steam, fire, and extreme heat emitted from a steam dryer.  b) Steam Dryer: Employees were not provided with personal protective equipment that would protect them from high temperature steam, fire, and extreme heat emitted from a steam dryer  Note - Abatement documentation and certification are required for this item.
