29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) Facility, 100 Front Street, New Brighton, PA: On or about November 16, 2020 no guard was in place to protect employees from the ingoing nip point created on the draw block. An employee was checking a wire for scratches when their hand was pulled into the rotating block. The employee sustained partial amputation of the 3rd and 4th fingers on their right hand. The employer, COL-FIN Specialty Steel was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.212(a)(1) that was contained in OSHA inspection number 1251875, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 09/28/2017, with respect to a workplace located at 100 Front Street, New Brighton, PA.
