29 CFR 1910.134(e)(1):General. The employer shall provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator, before the employee is fit tested or required to use the respirator in the workplace. The employer may discontinue an employee's medical evaluations when the employee is no longer required to use a respirator. Washbay, Acid Finish: On or about May 28, 2021, employees were exposed to respiratory stressors associated with being required to wear a Sundstrom Half Mask Air Purifying Respirator SR 100 in the washbay area of the ACS Management Group, LLC facility. Employees are required to wear the respirator to protect from exposure to hydrochloric acid vapors. The employer did not provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator, before the employee was fit tested or required to use the respirator in the workplace. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.134(f)(2):The employer shall ensure that an employee using a tight-fitting facepiece respirator is fit tested prior to initial use of the respirator, whenever a different respirator facepiece (size, style, model or make) is used, and at least annually thereafter. Washbay, Acid Finish: On or about May 28, 2021, employees were exposed to respiratory stressors associated with being required to wear a Sundstrom Half Mask Air Purifying Respirator SR 100 in the washbay area of the ACS Management Group, LLC facility. Employees are required to wear the respirator to protect from exposure to hydrochloric acid vapors. The employees were not fit tested prior to the initial use of the respirator. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

29 CFR 1910.151(c):Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: Washbay, Acid Finish: On or about May 28, 2021, employees transferring hydrochloric acid from its original tote to a smaller vessel for use during the day, and then using the acid for other tasks, are exposed to injuries from a corrosive material. The employer did not provide suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body within the work area for immediate emergency use. Abatement documentation is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
