29 CFR 1926.651(b)(4): While the excavation is open, underground installations shall be protected, supported or removed as necessary to safeguard employees. a)Hope Ave and Beethoven Street, Staten Island, NY - A 4" gas main was struck during sidewalk removal operations. The employer did not ensure underground utilities were protected to prevent damage. Condition occurred on January 5, 2021.
