The fall hazard to the ground below was approximately about 8 feet from that area to the ground below.    Employees were not protected by a personal fall arrest system or other means of fall protection.

29 CFR  1926.1053(b)(1):Where portable ladders were used for access to an upper landing surface and the ladder's length allows, the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface being accessed:   A) On or about January 5, 2021 at the eastern corner, 6 Church Hill Road, Wethersfield, CT job site:   The employer did not ensure that the 16-foot aluminum extension ladder used to access the roof surface extended at least three feet past the landing surface.   This was a slipping and fall hazard to the employees who traveled the ladder up and down carrying roofing materials.
