OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1) The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to potential lacerations, fractures, or other injuries while utilizing a conveyor belt. Location: First Floor Rear Receiving Area and Second Floor Stockroom On or about March 12, 2021, an employee was exposed to potential lacerations, fractures, or other injuries while utilizing a conveyor belt for which a feasible means of abatement existed. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement would include following the recommendations listed in the OSHA publication 3170-02R 2007, Safeguarding Equipment and Protecting Employees from Amputations, and may include but not be limited to implementing one or more of the following control methods; 1) Installing a physical barrier along the sides of the conveyor belt; 2) Safeguarding by distance; 3) Installing hazard awareness devices, such as pre-start-up signals and warning signs; 4) Installing an emergency stop button at or near the work area; 5) Ensure that only trained employees operate the conveyor belt.
