29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: On or about March 18, 2021, and at times prior thereto, the employer permitted employees to operate machines that were not guarded, including but not limited to the following instances: a. At machine 12C in the CNC lathe machine area, CNC lathe machines did not have interlock devices installed at the point-of-operation, exposing the employees to amputation hazards. b. In the CNC lathe machine area, the guarding on the chip conveyors were removed exposing the rotating parts, exposing the employees to amputation hazards.
