29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): The employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that was 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level was protected from falling by one or more of the following: Guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: On or about 04-21-2021, and times prior thereto, located at Naval Air Station Oceana 766 B Avenue. FRC MID-ATLANTIC, Hangar 200 Virginia Beach Virginia 23460, employee(s) were exposed to an unguarded and unprotected fall hazard greater than 8 feet high when assigned to work on the left hand side of an F/A 18 aircraft to complete an aircraft modification. Employee was working on an eight (8) foot high elevated work-stand and fell through the 32.5 inch open gap between the work-stand guard rail and the aircraft. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.

On or about 04-21-2021, and times prior thereto, located at Naval Air Station Oceana 766 B Avenue. FRC MID-ATLANTIC, Hangar 200 Virginia Beach Virginia 23460, employee(s) were exposed to an unguarded and unprotected fall hazard greater than 8 feet high when assigned to work on the left hand side of an F/A 18 aircraft to complete an aircraft modification without being adequately trained to identify the fall hazard at and near the unguarded area of the elevated working surface. Employee was working on an eight (8) foot high elevated work-stand and fell through the 32.5 inch open gap between the work-stand guard rail and the aircraft. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
