29 CFR 1910.141(a)(5): Enclosed workplace(s) were not so constructed, equipped, and maintained to prevent the entrance or harborage of rodents, insects, or other vermin. A continuing and effective extermination program was not in place: (a) Hangar 122, Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach, VA 23460: On 5/25/21 and time prior thereto, employees and contractors were assigned to work on aircraft stationed in a work area which was infested with vermin, in the form of nesting European Starlings. The European Starlings produced a continuous health hazard by defecating on workers, equipment, personal belongings, and various work surfaces. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.

29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1): 29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1): The employer did not ensure that all places of employment, passageways, storerooms, service rooms, and walking-working surfaces are kept in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition: (a) Hangar 122, Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach, VA 23460: On 5/25/21 and time prior thereto, employees and contractors were assigned to work on aircraft stationed in a work area which had a significant accumulation of bird droppings on equipment and work surfaces. The bird droppings were the product of a European Starling infestation within the work area. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
