29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.  a) On or about May 1, 2021, the 710010 Accurpress Press Brake which contained two sets of die of machines used to punch holes into metal angles were adjacent to each other with the point of operations for the two dies 14 inches apart and the upper and lower dies were 3/4 inches apart, the employee was not provided point of operation guarding on the second set of dies as only one die machine was used at a time. Both sets of dies were actuated at the same time by a foot treadle placed immediately next to the operations area of the dies which allowed the employee to hold the metal angle in place with their hand under the die opening while operating the Press Brake.   b) On or about June 10, 2021, the guard on the outlet of the W.A. Whitney Angle Shear was inadequate to protect employees while cutting short bars of metal in that employees have to hold the metal bar at the outlet of the Metal Shear during operation.
