29 CFR  1910.101(b): The in-plant handling, storage, and utilization of all compressed gases in cylinders, portable tanks, rail tankcars, or motor vehicle cargo tanks were not in accordance with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1-1965, which is incorporated by reference as specified in CFR 1910.6:   (a)	 Building 3 Room 1082-  Buoy Systems Lab;  A Black compressed gas cylinder containing air was not secured.  This exposes employees to potential struck by hazards.

29 CFR  1910.133(a)(1):The employer did not ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation:  (a)	Building 8 Acoustic Release Laboratory;  Chemical splash goggles were not provided to an employee who uses a corrosive acid bath (5% Oakite 31, which is diluted to 2-3% phosphoric acid) to clean tools and make new baths from the concentrated chemical two times a year.

29 CFR  1910.145(c)(2)(i): Caution signs were not used to warn against potential hazards or to caution against unsafe practices:   (a)	Building 3 Room 1105;  The soldering station in the middle of the room did not have CAUTION LEAD signage.   (b)	Building 8 PMEL Carbon Group;  The soldering station did not have CAUTION LEAD signage.  Caution signs were not posted to alert employees of the presence of lead and the precautions to take while performing tasks associated with soldering with lead containing solder.  This exposes employees to potential lead ingestion hazards.

29 CFR  1910.1025(h)(1): All surfaces were not maintained as free as practicable of accumulations of lead:   (a)	Building 3 Room 1105;  The soldering station in the middle of the room had surface lead contamination.   (b)	Building 3 Room 1105:  The soldering station located in the West end of the room had surface lead contamination.   (c)	Building 8, PMEL Carbon Group;  The soldering station had surface lead contamination.   This exposes employees to lead ingestion hazards.  *Please note that surfaces (other than glass or metal) are porous and gritty scrubbing cleaners (examples are Soft Scrub, Comet or Ajax) are sometimes needed to fully decontaminate the area from surface lead contamination. Lead wipes are also effective.

29 CFR  1910.303(b)(2):Listed or labeled electrical equipment was not used or installed in accordance with instructions included in the listing or labeling:  (a)	Building 8, PMEL Carbon Group.  A metal handy box with holes, designed to be permanently installed in a wall, was used for portable electrical power. The metal handy box was attached to a cord and hung from center of the room's ceiling to power equipment which measures CO2 in ocean water.  This exposes employees to possible electrical shock hazards.

29 CFR  1910.1200(f)(6)(ii):  Except as provided in 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(7) and 29 CFR 1910.1200(f)(8), the employer did not ensure that each container of hazardous chemicals in the workplace was labeled, tagged or marked with the product identifier and words, pictures, symbols, or combination thereof, which provide at least general information regarding the hazards of the chemicals and which, in conjunction with the other information immediately available to employees under the hazard communication program, would provide employees with the specific information regarding the physical and health hazards of the hazardous chemical.  a)	Building 3 Room 1107;  An Orange spool of solder was not labeled, and it contained lead as indicated by lead checks.  This exposes employees to lead ingestion hazards.   b)	Building 3 Room 1107;  A white laboratory squirt bottle containing isopropyl alcohol was not labeled. This exposes employees to respiratory irritation and/or dermatitis hazards.
