29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about December 23, 2021, employees were exposed to amputation hazards while performing foam tube cutting duties on the Hem 782XL band saw in that part of the saw blade was unguarded under the saw table. b) On or about January 13, 2022, employees were exposed to caught-in hazards from drill heads while performing calibration duties on the CR Osrund Router in that the bump guards on the front of the router table do not prevent employees from reaching over and around the sides of the tables to reach the drill heads.
