29 CFR 1910.22(a)(3): (3) Walking-working surfaces were not maintained free of hazards such as sharp or protruding objects, loose boards, corrosion, leaks, spills, snow, and ice. United States Postal Service: Electronic Technicians, who perform preventative maintenance behind the DBCS machines on the third floor, were exposed to protruding hazards related to sloped yellow barriers/ wheel stoppers with bolts popping up at certain locations. The work area/ passageway was about 25 inches wide behind the DBCS Machine 29, where employees performed their job duties including vacuuming and visual checks to clear jams. The yellow barriers were installed on the floor to keep pie carts away from crashing into DBCS machines and when panel/module doors are opened, it creates limited working space for employees which may lead to ergonomic injuries and development of musculoskeletal disorders.
