Safety of equipment shall be determined using the following considerations: In the Main Panel Room in the Rendering Department, employee(s) were exposed to electrical shock and burn hazards in that the energized wires running for an industrial fan were exposed.

29 CFR 1910.303(f)(2):Services, feeders, and branch circuits. Each service, feeder, and branch circuit, at its disconnecting means or overcurrent device, shall be legibly marked to indicate its purpose, unless located and arranged so the purpose is evident. In the Main Panel Room in the Rendering Department, employee(s) were exposed to electrical shock and fire hazards in that several of the circuit breakers panels were operated without all breakers being labeled.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips, and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. In the Rendering Department in the Cooking Area employees were exposed to amputation and struck by hazards in that the machine guard for Auger #7 was damaged and cracked creating a 3 inch gap between the machine guard and the pulleys and the rotating shaft of the Auger was not guarded.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(5):Exposure of blades. When the periphery of the blades of a fan is less than seven (7) feet above the floor or working level, the blades shall be guarded. The guard shall have openings no larger than one-half (1/2) inch. In the Main Panel Room located inside the Rendering Department, employees engaged in production and activities were exposed to amputation and lacerations hazards in that an industrial ventilation fan's guarding had openings on the blade guard that exceeded 1/2 of an inch.
