OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards while moving stone slabs. On April 5, 2022, an employee placing a wedge in between slabs of stone sitting on an A-Frame stand was exposed to a crushing hazard in that the employee was standing in the fall shadow of two(2)slabs of stone that were 10 feet by 5 feet by 3/8 inch thick and weighed approximately 600-800 pounds each. Among other feasible means to abate is to follow OSHA SHIB 08-12-2008, Hazards of Transporting, Unloading, Storing and Handling Granite, Marble, and Stone Slab, Recommendations for Handling and In-House Transport of Stone Slabs, paragraph seven: Always walk at the end of the slab. Never walk in the "fall shadow" of a slab (see photo #6). The "fall shadow" is the area on both sides of the slab where the slab could land and topple if it were to fall.
