29 CFR 1910.37(a)(3): Exit route(s) are not kept free and unobstructed. a) The employer fails to ensure effective measures to prevent fire and entrapment hazards as demonstrated on or about April 19, 2022 in the receiving/storage room, where employees work the merchandise. The emergency exit door and egress route was obstructed by store merchandise, roll-tainers, and U-boats, impeding direct means of egress for employees in the event of an emergency. To abate this violation, the employer must ensure that all emergency exit routes are kept unobstructed and free from product to ensure a safe walkway for employees to exit the emergency exit door in case of an emergency. b) The employer fails to ensure effective measures to prevent fire and entrapment hazards as demonstrated on or about April 19, 2022, in the main retail space, where employees work the merchandise. The right rear emergency exit door in the the main retail space was obstructed by store merchandise, roll-tainers, and U-boats, impeding direct means of egress for employees in the event of an emergency. To abate this violation, the employer must ensure that all emergency exit routes are kept unobstructed and free from product to ensure a safe walkway for employees to exit the emergency exit door in case of an emergency.

To abate this hazard, the employer must ensure that portable fire extinguishers are mounted, identified, and located where readily accessible to prevent subjecting employees to injury. The Dolgencorp, LLC was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.157(c)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1263006, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on February 16, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at 19055 US Highway 31, Vinemont, AL.
