29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(viii): Immediately or as soon as possible after use, contaminated reusable sharps were not placed in appropriate containers until properly reprocessed: OPERATORIES: On or about May 19, 2022, contaminated reusable dental instruments were stored on open flat trays with low sides. These trays were used to bring the contaminated instruments to the sterilization area.

29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(4)(ii)(E): Reusable sharps that were contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious material were stored or processed in a manner that required employees to reach by hand into the containers where these sharps had been placed: OPERATORIES: On or about May 19, 2022, dental assistants were exposed to blood-borne pathogens when they a) Used uncovered, low, flat trays to transport contaminated reusable sharps to the sterilization area. b) Reached into baskets of contaminated reusable sharps to manually scrub the sharps before putting them in pouches for the autoclave.
