29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1):"Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. (a) On May 24, 2022, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard while standing at the edge of a flat commercial roof providing hand signals to a crane operator without the use of any fall protection system. The potential fall height was measured to be 24'-2".

29 CFR 1926.502(a)(2): Employers shall provide and install all fall protection systems required by this subpart for an employee, and shall comply with all other pertinent requirements of this subpart before that employee begins the work that necessitates the fall protection: (A) Guardrail systems; (B) Safety net systems; or (C) Personal fall protection systems, such as personal fall arrest, travel restraint, or positioning systems. (a) On May 24, 2022, located on the north side of a flat commercial roof, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard as no fall protection system was installed before the employee was standing at the edge of a roof providing hand signals to a crane operator. The potential fall height was measured to be 24'-2".
