29 CFR 1910.22(a)(3): The employer did not ensure that walking-working surfaces are maintained free of hazards such as sharp or protruding objects, loose boards, corrosion, leaks, spills, snow, and ice.    (a) Dock (at door opening): On about 5/24/2022 and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to trip hazards in that the passageways were not level and were covered by a metal plate with a quarter inch lift when employees were required to store U-boats, use the emergency route or take out trash.

29 CFR 1910.28(b)(11)(ii): The employer did not ensure that each flight of stairs having at least 3 treads and at least 4 risers is equipped with stair rail systems and handrails as described in 29 CFR 1910.28 Table D-2-Stairway Handrail Requirements.    (a) Dock (outside of emergency exit door): On or about 5/24/2022, and at times prior the employer exposed employees to fall hazards in that handrails on the external side were not provided for stairs with 6 treads and 5 risers when employees were required to access the stairs to  take out the trash.

29 CFR  1910.22(a)(1): The employer did not ensure that all places of employment, passageways, storerooms, service rooms, and walking-working surfaces are kept in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.  (a) The employer fails to ensure effective protection against struck-by, trip, and fire hazards as required by the standard, as demonstrated on or about May 24, 2022, at 209 E 10th St West Point, GA, when the receiving/storage room was not kept clean, sanitary, and orderly, preventing employees from moving product in and out of the receiving/storage room onto the sales floor and from delivery trucks. To abate this violation, the employer must ensure that the receiving/storage room is clean and organized.  Dollar General Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, 29 CFR1910.22(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1551005, citation number 1, item number 1, and was affirmed as a final order on March 21, 2022, with respect to a workplace located at 1288 Beaverdale Rd NE, Dalton, GA 30721.  Dollar General Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, 29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1550619, citation number 1, item number 1, and was affirmed as a final order on March 18, 2022, with respect to a workplace located at 2381 Dawes Rd Mobile, AL 36695. 29 CFR  1910.176(b): Material stored in tiers was not stacked, blocked, interlocked or limited in height so that it was stable and secure against sliding and collapse:  (a) The employer fails to ensure effective protection against struck-by hazards as required by the standard, as demonstrated on or about May 24, 2022, at 209 East 10th St. WestPoint, Georgia, in the receiving/storage room, boxes and loose materials were stacked in a way that was unbalanced, unstable, unsecure which could not prevent the merchandise from falling onto or in the path of employees. Product was stacked at heights greater than 7 feet and leaning. To abate this violation, the employer must ensure that the receiving room has stable and secure material and product in that the material is stored in tiers that is stacked, blocked, interlocked, and limited to a height to prevent the product and material from sliding or collapsing onto employees when they try to remove or grab the material to restock the store.    Dollar General was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.176(b), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1551005 citation number 1 item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on March 21, 2022, with respect to a workplace located at 1288 Beaverdale Rd NE, Dalton, GA 30721.
