29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1): The employer did not ensure that all places of employment, passageways, storerooms, service rooms, and walking-working surfaces are kept in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. At the worksite located at 8101 E. 32nd Street, Joplin, Missouri: 1) Employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards in the mill tower. Walking-working surfaces in the mill tower were not free from hazards such as accumulation of pearled barley, oat groats, brown rice, potato starch, potato flour, and tapioca starch. Pearled barley, oat groats, brown rice, potato starch, potato flour, and tapioca starch are combustible dusts, which were observed in the mill tower on elevated surfaces at a depth of greater than one inch. 2) Employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards in the silo room. Walking-working surfaces in the silo room were not free from hazards such as accumulation of pearled barley, oat groats, brown rice, potato starch, potato flour, and tapioca starch. Pearled barley, oat groats, brown rice, potato starch, potato flour, and tapioca starch are combustible dusts, which were observed in the silo room on elevated surfaces at a depth of greater than one inch.
