29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. a) 2401 Stanford Road, Panama City, FL 32405; On or about August 22, 2022 and at times prior thereto the controlling employer failed to ensure that its subcontracted employees were protected from fall hazards in that employees were allowed to work on the second level of an apartment building's balconies, and these specific balconies had unprotected edges (no guardrails) and exposed employees to 11 foot (and greater) falls to the next lower level (ground surface).
