An inspection was not conducted by the competent person prior to the start of work and as needed throughout the shift. Located in Yosemite Park at the Glacier Point Federal Highway project, the employer did not ensure a competent person conducted daily or necessary inspections of the trench. Employees on the project were exposed to hazards from cave-ins or collapse.
