General-duty citation text
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees Employees were exposed to struck by and crushed by hazards in the paneling area at Crestwood, Inc. located at 601 E Waterwell Rd., Salina, Kansas. This was most recently documented on or about November 23, 2022 when a "remakes" small wheel based cart was used to transport 13 plywood panels that measured 4 feet by 10 feet. The panels were placed on the cart in a manner that made the load 10 feet tall. During transport, the top heavy load and cart tipped forward toward the operator. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazards are: ? Evaluate each cart configuration to determine appropriate handcart use for part transportation, safe distribution of the weight, and weight limit. ? Label each cart with weight limit, and which parts it can safely load it with and transport. ? Develop and implement work rules and procedures for safe handcart use. ? Train employees on which handcarts to use for specific manufacturing materials, safe loading practices, and how to recognize and minimize hazards associated with handcart use. ? Conduct periodic evaluations to ensure employees follow established handcart work rules and procedures.
