29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. (A) An employee engaged in maintenance activities at J F O'Neil Packing located at 3120 G Street, Omaha, NE 68107, was exposed to amputation hazards in that employees were working on an unguarded drill press in the maintenance room. (B) An employee engaged in meat processing activities at J F O'Neil Packing located at 3120 G Street, Omaha, NE 68107, was exposed to amputation hazards in that an employee in the Paunch Room was exposed to unguarded auger.

Compressed air shall not be used for cleaning purposes except where reduced to less than 30 p.s.i. and then only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment. 29 CFR 1910.305(g)(2)(iii):Flexible cords and cables shall be connected to devices and fittings so that strain relief is provided that will prevent pull from being directly transmitted to joints or terminal screws. Employees engaged in meat processing activities at J F O'Neil Packing located at 3120 G Street, Omaha, NE 68107, were exposed to electrical hazards in that the flexible cord(s) were damaged on the West and East side of the Fab line. (A) 180 degree sanitizer on the west side of the Fab line had damage to the outer jacket of the flexible cord. There was no device or fitting in place to prevent strain relief. (B) The flexible cord on the east side of the Fab line below the main cutting table also has damage to the outer jacket of the flexible cord. There was no device or fitting in place to prevent strain relief.
