Guards shall be affixed to the machine where possible and secured elsewhere if for any reason attachment to the machine is not possible. The guard shall be such that it does not offer an accident hazard in itself:  a) On or about January 6, 2023, at a workplace located at 1330 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin in the Lower Variety Level, adjacent to the Rendering Department; The expanded metal guarding covering the power transmission components on the waste conveyor was damaged with a sharp metal piece protruding from the enclosure and it was not affixed to the frame.

JBS Green Bay, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of an equivalent Occupational Safety and Health Standard 1910.28(b)(3)(iv), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1304856, citation number 1, item number 5 and was affirmed as a final order on October 3, 2019, with respect to a workplace located at 1330 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.:  a) On or about January 6, 2023, at a workplace located at 1330 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin in the Lower Kill/Variety Area; Employees working and walking in close proximity to the waste auger conveyor, were exposed to ingoing nip point and/or rotating parts hazards from the unguarded powered auger.   b) On or about December 23, 2022, at a workplace located at 1330 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin in the Harvest Department; Employees working at the second transfer were exposed to pinch point hazards from the automatic upward movement of the chain and shackle initially wrapped around the cow's leg.   JBS Green Bay, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of an equivalent Occupational Safety and Health Standard 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1304856, citation number 1, item number 5 and was affirmed as a final order on October 3, 2019, with respect to a workplace located at 1330 Lime Kiln Road, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
