A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress shall be located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees.  A) 99 Regional Drive, Penns Grove, NJ: Employees were not provided with a safe means to enter and exit the approximately 6-foot excavation.   The employees were  assigned to excavate a damaged water main connection pipe and a means to exit such as a ladder was provided.   Condition noted on or about February 9, 2023.  NOTE: IN ADDITION TO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS ITEM, FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1000.00 IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
