1910.141(a)(3)(i) Places of employment were not kept clean to the extent that the nature of the work allowed: In the agricultural livestock barns, employee(s) engaged in maintenance and poultry waste cleanup were exposed to health hazards in that the employer did not maintain them in a sanitary condition and ensure that those wastes were removed as often as necessary to prevent employee(s) from being exposed to respiratory inhalation hazards. Endotoxins which come from the cell walls of certain bacteria are a component of poultry dust. Exposure to endotoxins causes acute respiratory symptoms, including but not limited to, cough, shortness of breath, and lung function impairment. Other endotoxins from poultry waste include Salmonella and Campylobacter.
