29 CFR  1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.  a. On or about February 20, 2023, at the #14 repair line, there were inadequate guarding in place at the end of the line where the steel was recoiled in that employees could conceivably bypass the existing guard and the keyed permissive to gain access to the ingoing nip point of the coil.    b. On or about February 20, 2023, at the #14 repair line, there was inadequate guarding in place to prevent employees from accessing the line by way of the swing gate and reaching into the ingoing nip point where the rollers trim the sides of the steel.   c. On or about February 20, 2023, at the #14 repair line, at the front and back of the area after the steel was trimmed, there were inadequate guards in place that did not entirely prevent an employee from being able to reach into and contact the edge of the steel as it moves through the line.
