29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Instance a): Grizzly model G4185 horizontal boring machine - On or about March 28, 2023, the Grizzly boring machine was not equipped with guarding at the point of operation for the clamping mechanism, where the guard had been removed from the machine. As a result, an employee suffered a partial finger tip amputation when their finger was caught between the work piece and the clamping pad. Instance b): Ritter model R801 horizontal boring machine - On or about April 17, 2023, the Ritter boring machine was not equipped with guarding at the point of operation for the clamping mechanism, exposing operators to pinch points and crush injuries.
