29 CFR 1910.176(b): Secure storage. Storage of material shall not create a hazard. Bags, containers, bundles, etc., stored in tiers shall be stacked, blocked, interlocked and limited in height so that they are stable and secure against sliding or collapse. a) On or about March 27, 2023, the employer did not ensure that the boxes, containing parts for Kenworth Semi Trucks, were properly stacked, blocked, interlocked and limited in height, exposing employees to struck by hazards. An employee, working in 24-Z Build Cell, was struck by parts located in a five tier racking system that were not stacked properly. The parts weighed between 800-1000 pounds on the top rack and the parts were not blocked to prevent movement when from being struck. The parts were not interlocked when double stacked and the parts were not limited in height in that the heavy boxes were located approximately 11' 4" from ground. This was last observed on April 21, 2023.
