Facilities for emergency flushing of the eyes were not furnished within the immediate area where aquatics program employee(s) pour liquid chemicals by hand, including muriatic acid and sodium hypochlorite solution, during replenishment of the container supplying the pool metering system; exposing them to the hazard of eye contact with strong corrosive(s) due to splashing. Condition(s) were noted on or about 5/10/2023.

29 CFR 1910.1200(e)(1):The employer did not develop, implement, and/or maintain at the workplace a written hazard communication program which describes how the criteria specified in 29 CFR 1910.1200(f), (g), and (h) will be met: a) 1050 Jeanette Avenue, Union, NJ, 07083, pool filter room, Employee(s) pour liquid chemicals by hand, including muriatic acid and sodium hypochlorite solution, during replenishment of the container supplying the pool metering system; exposing them to the chemical hazard(s) including eye and/or skin contact with strong corrosive(s) from splashing as well as inhalation exposure to low levels of chlorine gas. There was no plan at the facility for communicating information on the hazards of chemicals used by employee(s) including maintenance of safety data sheets, labeling of containers and employee training on the requirements of the standard and measure(s) to follow to prevent injury/illness. Condition(s) were noted on or about 5/10/2023.
