29 CFR 1910.106(e)(6): In locations where flammable vapors may have been present, precautions were not taken to prevent ignition by eliminating or controlling sources of ignition such as but not limited to open flames, lightning, smoking, cutting and welding, hot surfaces, frictional heat, sparks (static, electrical, and mechanical), spontaneous ignition, chemical and physical-chemical reactions, and radiant heat: Location: 86 North Main Street. Wharton, New Jersey 07885. a) The employer did not ensure that precautions were taken to prevent spontaneous ignition of flammable liquids during the manufacture of hand sanitizer. On July 5, 2023, an employee engaged in hand sanitizer production operations to include mixing batches of product containing denatured alcohol, water and combustible powders suffered burn injuries when the product ignited. Violation noted on or about July 10, 2023.
